| THE 16th CENTURY GALLEON
The galleon was primarily a war vessel having a square stern with three or four decks. Most people who see a ship model today and are asked to name its kind are likely to say "its a galleon." The galleon’s great period was during the 16th Century and the early part of the 17th Century.
A small, ten gun, three deck galleon in a large scale is offered by multi-award winning model shipwright Raul Guzman Jr. This award winning model (1st in Houston and 1st in San Antonio) is a mostly scratch built galleon in 1/24 scale. This
model was built in 444 hours and 12 minutes. It is a rather large model. It
measures thirty-four inches tall, eighteen inches wide (widest spar), has
a hull width of about nine and 3/4 inches and is thirty-nine and a half
inches long. It weighs twelve and one half pounds. It was built in the plank on
bulkhead fashion, using basswood (primary layer and deck) and walnut (outer layer).
Its graceful appearance, visible craftsmanship and color combination is a pleasure to behold. Unfortunately photos don’t fully capture the essence of beauty that is visible when seeing the model in person. This model would be a great addition to a private collection, home, office or museum. This model was built 4 years ago and has been kept in a large display cabinet protecting it from the elements.
Asking only $4900 for this work of art.
