| The Cutty Sark
The Cutty Sark, launched in 1869, is of composite construction that was used by many British shipbuilders of that time; the traditional wooden planking was laid over iron frames. The various elements were riveted together to provide the hull with greater rigidity. She was among the fastest of her design, carrying tea from China to England. Today she is in dry dock of Greenwich, England.
The model of her is a double plank-on-bulkhead and represents over a year to complete. The bottom of the hull has approximately 2300 individual copper plates. The brass work such as the flat stanchions and wire railing from the kit were replaced to provide a more esthetic look.
The model is 45 inches long, 26 inches high and a scale of 1:78.
