The Endeavour
HM Bark Endeavour, ex Earl of Pembroke, was chosen by Captain
James Cook for his first voyage of exploration. In 1765, the Whitby Collier
was outfitted for an extended trip into the Southern oceans. The trip was
to engage in scientific discovery, and had several well known scientists on
board, including the botanist, Joesph Banks. The public plan was to go to
Tahiti to observe the transit of Venus, but the secret plan was to then
continue south and search for the Great Southern Continent. Cook did, in
fact, discover New Zealand, and was the first to map the east coast of
Australia.
This beautiful model was built in 1999 and took about 500 hours. The hull
is double planked with limewood and mahogany, and Tanginyka decks. It is a modified
Artisana Latina kit and comes complete with a light oak display case.
Price $2,400.00 shipping and handling extra.
