| The HMS Endeavour
The Endeavor was launched in 1765 as a Whitby Collier. She was refitted three years later for an extended trip into the Southern Oceans commanded by Captain James Cook. There were several scientists and a noted botanist aboard and they were ostensibly bound for Tahiti to observe the transit of Venus. From Tahiti they went in search of the fabled Great Southern
Continent. Cook discovered New Zealand and was the first to accurately chart
the East Coast of Australia. The Endeavor returned to England in 1771.
