| THE ENDEAVOUR
Famous as Captain James Cook's discovery barque, the
Endeavour was originally built in Whitby, England in 1765 as the Earl of Pembroke
which carried coal from England to Scandinavia. She was later bought by the
admiralty and extensively converted before sailing from Plymouth in August 1768 on
a voyage of exploration.
After discovering Australia, Tahiti and numerous islands, she returned to
England in 1771 carrying many animals, plants and vegetables previously
unknown in Britain.
Armed with 10 guns on carriages and 12 swivel guns she carried a crew of
94.
Mantua kit in scale of 1:60. Walnut plank on frame construction presented
in timber and glass case.
