| THE H.M.S. BOUNTY
The H.M.S. Bounty has made its mark in history thanks to the infamous mutiny of Fletcher Christian against Captain Bligh. After a trip to Tahiti, Fletcher and his mutineers cast Blight and 18 of his supporters adrift in the ship’s launch. In a miracle and marvel of seamanship, Blight survived the
perilous voyage to Timor.
This model of the H.M.S. Bounty is built from a timbering set sold by The Lumber Yard in Brecksville, Ohio. The scale is: 1/48. Harold Hahn’s blueprints from Admiralty draughts were used. This ship model was built using the "upside down" admiralty model style developed by Harold Hahn. This method uses a "sistered" process of making each of the 42 frames. Hundreds of trunnels (wooden nails) were made for securing the planks. The model is 33 inches long, stands just under 29 inches tall and its widest spar is one foot.
Quality woods were used in its construction. The black wood is ebony, the bulk of the model is boxwood, the planking is pear, the pinkish wood is swiss pear, the dark brown wood is walnut and the deck was made in basswood.
