The H.M.S Pandora
H.M.S. Pandora was the British Royal Navy's War Ship sent to the South
Pacific to locate and capture the 25 men who had pirated the H.M.S. Bounty
and set Her Captain William Bligh and the remainder of Her crew adrift. She
was built in Deptford England in 1779. The 24 gun Porcupine class frigate
and the mission to capture the Bounty Mutineers was entrusted to Capt. Edward
Edwards
Unfortunately, the Pandora struck a reef and sank in the Great Barrier Reef
area killing several of her crew and mutineers, which were held in the
infamous Pandora's box.
In November 1977, the H.M.S. Pandora wreck site was discovered and is
currently being excavated by the Queensland Museum.
This Model of the H.M.S. Pandora is made from a Constructo kit with slight
modification such as: The stern section and windows are built up from wood
not metal which came with the kit. It also has a full set of hand stitched
sails and copper plating below the water line. The model is constructed of
fine hard woods like walnut and mahogany. She has been finished with a clear
high gloss wood finish to show off the beauty and contrast of the woods The
measurements of the finished model are:
Length = 32" inches, Height = 26" inches, Width = 12" inches. The H.M.S.
Pandora model is being offered at a very reasonable $1200.00 US.
