The Polyphemus - A one-of-a-kind Masterpiece

Price $25,000

Perhaps the most authentic model of an eighteenth century ship ever offered here, Polyphemus is the result of 30 years of research and construction. Winner of the prestigious Howard Chapelle Memorial Award for Research (presented only once every five years) and a Silver medallist in the 2000 Mariners' Museum international ship model competition, this model has impeccable credentials.

Polyphemus was a 64 gun ship of the line which fought at such significant battles as Copenhagen in 1801 and Trafalgar in 1805. The model has been built from the original ship's plans, and shows her as she would have looked just after her launching in April 1782.

Extensive research was undertaken in England by the Canadian model-maker David Antscherl. His findings have been published in The Nautical Research Journal (USA), and articles by David have appeared in both American Neptune and Model Shipwright (UK).

The model has been constructed from the finest materials to Museum standards. At the classic scale of 1:48 (¼" = 1'.0"), Polyphemus is an imposing presence over four feet in length. Each plank is fastened with dozens of scale wooden treenails, and all the metalwork and fittings are entirely handmade. From the galley chimney to the deadeyes and chains, each has been lovingly fabricated in exquisite detail.

We guarantee that there is no other model like this available: the discriminating collector will recognise Polyphemus as unique, and that she will be the centrepiece of any significant collection.

This model is being offered at $25,000 US which includes a custom wooden display case, with faux finish burled oak and marble base, 15" wide x 20" high x 53" long.

Tall Ships Mark of Value assures you we have evaluated this model for fair market price

The model is for sale at the price of $25,000.00 US. Packaging, shipping and Insurance will depend on destination and will be quoted separately.

GST and PST will be added to all orders with a Canadian destination.
