The Amerigo Vespucci

History.

The Amerigo Vespucci was designed by Lt.Col.Francesco Rotundi and was build at the Navy's ship yards at Castellammare di Stabia in Naples,Italy in 1930.

Amerigo Vespucci was named after the famous Italian explorerer who lived in the 15th century . This famous Italian ship was build as a training ship for the Italian Navy and is still serving as such today.

Before the second world war she had a sistership called Cristoforo Colombo, launched in 1928, but the Italians had to give her up to the Russians after the war. Amerigo Vespucci has a crew of 450,is 101 meters long and has 2100 m2 sail.

The model.

The model was build from the Panart kit. The frames were mirrored to get a smooth hull, without any bumps or dents, and then the hull was double planked.

All 11 of the ships boats are of plank on frame construction. The scale of the ship is 1:84, dimensions are 130 x 80 x 37cm. She is large and very impressive!

She took about 2000 hours to build, spread over a 2 year period.

A case is not included,at the moment the model is protected by a plexiglass case which is only meant to keep it free from dust.

This highly complex and beautfully crafted model is offered at $7000.00 US.

It is located in Holland, so shipping, handling and insurance is extra and will be quoted to your destination separately. Please inquire!

The model is for sale at the price of $7,000.00 US including display case . Packaging, shipping and Insurance will depend on destination and will be quoted separately.
