| THE VIGILANTE
The North Atlantic fishing schooners were admired for their sailing abilities and beauty. Often described as the finest fishing vessels in the world, they were the pride of their captains and the ports from which they sailed.
The Schooner Vigilant launched in 1893 from Gloucester Mass. was one of these great sailers employed in the dangerous Georges bank fishery. With a lively sheer, she measured 90' X 22' with a loaded draft of about 11 feet and was said to be a very handy schooner.
This unique model Vigilante was scratch built ( 2004 ) in Honduras plank on frame, using the finest materials ( exotic hardwoods, copper, brass, stainless steel, and vexar ). Everything is entirely hand made. At a scale of 26:1 she measures over 5 feet and makes an impressive display.
